Foodicine Health Partners with Dine Out Boston/Restaurant Week -August 5-17, 2018

Dine Out Boston celebrates our vibrant restaurant scene and thanks to a partnership with Foodicine Health, more people can enjoy a great meal (and deal!) at some of the city’s best spots.

Boston, MA – July 26, 2018- In an ongoing effort to raise awareness of health-related restrictive or “special” diets, Foodicine Health is partnering with Dine Out Boston to encourage restaurants to offer gluten-free, low-fiber, low-carb or food-allergy friendly options during the upcoming restaurant weeks, August 5-10th and 12-17th.   

With a rapidly rising portion of the US population living with chronic disease, many people are adhering to a medically-prescribed meal plan. But, because eating is often a social event, following a restrictive diet can be difficult. This is especially true during big events, while traveling and at schools and universities.  Foodicine Health, which was founded by Harriet Diamond, a local realtor who experienced this challenge first-hand, is committed to easing the burden of dietary restriction by addressing the social and cultural barriers that arise in public spaces.    

“Dining out is one of the greatest challenges when following a special diet,” said Harriet Diamond, CEO and founder of Foodicine Health. “By partnering with the restaurants participating in Dine Out Boston, we hope to make it easier for people to enjoy a nice meal out without feeling judged or misunderstood.”

Foodicine’s efforts have been well-received among the Dine Out Boston participants. In fact, restaurateurs, Ming Tsai and Jasper White, were both eager to jump on board this year. Tsai has committed to offering a low-sodium dish as part of Blue Dragon’s “Blackboard Specials” and White’s Summer Shack features a heart-healthy “Be Good To Yourself” menu option and gluten-free choices during Dine Out Boston weeks.

“We take a lot of pride in knowing that we can serve delicious food to those with life-threatening allergies or special dietary needs”, said Ming Tsai, Chef and owner of Blue Dragon, which is a peanut and tree nut free restaurant. “We have a system in place that ensures every guest can not only eat in our restaurant but feels safe doing so.”

Foodicine Health hopes that this effort is just the start of a bigger initiative and plans to challenge other cities throughout the country to offer special diet-friendly options during Dine Out celebrations and other food-focused public events.
